Q: What does BALANCE mean to you when you think about design?

NRF: Distribute the elements to generate balance in a composition. In the cinema, the temporal factor is added and this balance is distributed over time, which means that you have to setup different moods and situations.

PP: I think that the more balanced a composition is—although it could be beautiful—it will be boring, predictable and tasteless. To me, the most interesting works and projects are always somehow unbalanced: it could be on budget, time, colors, or anything. I see passion as a good way to unbalance a project, because the more passionate you are about a job, more research, risk, and innovation you will put into it!

Q: What do you predict is going to be BIG in 2019 in terms of design?

NRF: I’m not very aware of trends—perhaps, I’m a bit old-fashioned. In my personal work, I try to follow the subjects that I love: little stories of common people.

PP: The most powerful thing about design today is its capacity to transform. I love seeing professionals from different fields working together wondering what design can do to improve people’s lives. I think the ability that we designers have to answer this question will define the most interesting designs in 2019.

Q: How do you explain what you do for a living?

NRF: In addition to being a Director, I also work as a Motion Designer. It’s hard to make films in Argentina these days.

Q: What are your go-tos for when you’re seeking inspiration?

NRF: The best ideas appear when you are not looking for them, so spending time outside, meeting friends, traveling, reading—just doing something. I never got any good inspiration scrolling through my Instagram feed!

Q: Tell us about a project that you worked on that you are most proud of.

NRF: Endless Letterpress is a film that tells the story of a dying craft: letterpress printing. In Argentina, two generations live side by side—the immigrants, descendants who inherited the craft, and a group of young people who have rediscovered the technique and are transforming it into a cult language.

Q: My favorite thing about my city is…

NRF: One of the things I like most about Buenos Aires is its eclecticism. There are many cultural proposals and people who come from different places with very different stories.

Q: Why do you do what you do? What do you want to leave behind for future generations?

NRF: Well, I really don’t know yet, haha. But I realize that I love filmmaking. I hope I can leave behind more than mountains of plastic garbage.

Q: What is your super power?

NRF: Patience and perseverance!
