  • Join us to brainstorm ways we can create new designs and strategies for product packaging. Let’s keep materials out of landfills and get innovative about how we repurpose items for good!

The Seattle Design Jam will bring together manufacturers, designs, students, and community members for an afternoon of brainstorming innovative ideas to utilize cardboard and plastic packaging (materials often thought of as waste) for use in product packaging design. Participants, working in cross-disciplinary teams, will develop solutions that transform these materials into new packaging for locally made goods, new product ideas for consumers and businesses, as well as novel solutions for community projects.

The event is broken up between two event windows, 10-12 pm and 1-3 pm, as well as ongoing short (5 – 10 minute) pop-in sessions. You may choose the am or pm session, both, or pop-in sessions happening throughout the day.

    AM and PM Sessions:
At the start of each session, Design Jam leaders will provide a framework for the day’s activities, providing an introduction to the challenges teams will respond to and the design process for the day. Local businesses and organizations will also share their needs and opportunities and how they can be part of new solutions. Teams will then divide up and rapidly work through a series of activities designing solutions to the local challenges. In parallel to imaging new products and business solutions, teams will be tasked with identifying what system changes need to take place to turn their ideas into actionable concepts. At the end of each session, drawings, models, and ideas will be displayed and celebrated!

    Pop-In Session:
Join us for a quick session that will challenge and inspire you to rethink the ways in which we can keep materials out of landfills!
