  • We are implementing a paradigm shift in our design processes, integrating rigorous neuroscience and deeper holistic dialogues to address challenging design issues. Brain-based design principles reveal how different personalities interact with the built settings that serve their purpose. Our workplaces, buildings and cities must change to support our overloaded digital information-age, to provide places that better serve different approaches to problem solving and creativity, as well as health and well-being. With new methods from neuroscience, psychology and sociology, we can gain a deeper insight of how specific design elements may impact measurable changes in performance and productivity. These data provide the foundation for new and creative solutions that consider a broad range of users and uses. We discuss novel studies and demonstrate how findings inform core principles for transformative designs that adapt to users’ needs while addressing business goals. Through studies of flexible and hybrid ‘free address’ offices, we showcase how best-practices in workplace planning and design may enable clients to envision their own futures in a new way.

This presentation will be hosted by the International Interior Design Association’s Northern Pacific Chapter’s Seattle City Center in partnership with the Seattle Design Festival.

Check in starts at 2:00pm. The presentation will begin at 2:30pm. A reception will be held after the presentation for an opportunity to mingle with our presenters and guests. Light refreshments will be served.
