Underwater is a mesmerizing play of light and shadow: feel the sensation of water on your skin, hear the soothing sounds of bubbles and currents, and even taste the saltiness of the sea. We invite you to pause here and open your senses to the beauty that surrounds you.
Underwater is a built installation that celebrates the significance of water in the Pacific Northwest community through an immersive and sensory experience. The installation invites people to interact with water, light, and surfaces, engaging each of their five senses and fostering a deeper connection with themselves and the environment. Here, natural and artificial lighting carry reflections from a submerged deck below the lake’s surface to a broad plane overhead, highlighting water’s ever-changing character at an oversized scale. Underwater uses this light, reflection, and sound to amplify the natural beauty and dynamic motion of water, offering visitors a new way of experiencing Lake Union. While the submerged deck is not accessible, guests can gather beneath the canopy to observe and enjoy the sights and sounds of the water, creating a shared experience of curiosity and exploration.
