As Seattle continues shifting toward a more transit-oriented urban model, the corridor plays a critical role in supporting large volumes of daily movement through Downtown Seattle. 3rd Avenue is Seattle’s primary high-speed transit spine where people constantly move, transfer, orient, and make decisions in motion. When streets like 3rd Avenue experience high traffic and fast-moving transit, people often feel disoriented and unsafe. Thus, designers typically attempt to resolve this issue by slowing down the movement in the city.
Instead, our project explores how urban space itself can adapt to and operate within these evolving street conditions. Our research focuses on how visible elements like signage, edge conditions and way finding shape pedestrian behavior, safety, and accessibility within high-speed transit urbanism. Rather than transforming transit stops into isolated micro-public spaces, we propose a spatial platform that strengthens clarity, recognition, and movement across the evolving transit corridor. Please join us in designing the next transit stop along 3rd Avenue in Downtown Seattle! We would love to hear your input on our design prototypes and discuss the city’s future transit infrastructure. Use your creativity and imagination to build your own transit stop out of LEGO Blocks.
