Design in Community: Mel Isidor at Seattle Art Book Fair

Last summer at Adobe’s “Create Now Seattle x SDF Mixer,” Mel Isidor gave a presentation sharing her design practice as it intersects with the built environment, urban settings, people and culture, leaving a lasting impression. Pulling imagery from her own photography, family archives, and public records, Mel builds scenes grounded in memory and heritage. We’re excited to see her listed as a Page Turner Fellow for this year’s Seattle Art Book Fair – coming up in May!

The Seattle Art Book Fair’s Page Turner Fellows – Mel Isidor and Dustin Mattaio Mara – will present a new work at the fair on May 9-10, as they received grant funding, a reserved table at the fair, and mentorship to support their publication. The goal of this program is to encourage and support new voices in the art book field and to grow the connections among book artists and designers in Washington State.

Mel Isidor is a Haitian-American designer, urban planner, and mixed-media artist based in Seattle, WA. Her creative spirit stems from a fascination with the built environment—exploring how cities reveal the relationship between people and culture. Her work combines photography, collage, printmaking, and book arts to create layered compositions of cityscapes that blend documentation and imagination across time and space. Mel’s artistic methodology is rooted in observation, using walking and photographic documentation as an immersive research method to engage with architectural details and urban patterns.

The annual Seattle Art Book Fair will take place from May 9-10 at Washington Hall. Help us celebrate design in community by attending the fair and checking out Mel’s work!
