As we rejoin the physical public sphere, we ask: What does it mean to communicate, on a human level? In this installation we invite two strangers to have an intimate conversation, confiding in each other without ever seeing one another.
Person | Person takes place in a partitioned booth shared by two individuals, socially distanced and only aware of the other’s voice. They cannot see what the other person looks like and therefore the paradigm of communication shifts–instead of a zoom meeting where both parties see and hear each other, now they can only hear and be alongside each other. Individuals reflect on the impacts of the pandemic on the built environment or their wellbeing, among other topics.
Each guest will draw a different card, kicking off a process of engagement and discussion. Perspectives can be shared from guest to guest without fear of judgment, each partner on opposite sides of an opaque panel. As the conversation ends, both guests will then be encouraged to write their own prompts and concepts that came up to be added to the existing deck of cards for future participants.
