The Block Party lounge will be designed by Mithun in collaboration with the local non-profit Sawhorse Revolution. The table and seating in the Pop-Up Zone have been designed to be welcoming to members of the design community, and the community at large. All elements of the installation will have a permanent home with community partners following the Festival; The table will be used by students at Sawhorse Revolution as they learn to tackle social injustice and better their communities with carpentry and design skills. We invite you to use this lounge to sit and engage with each other, and to consider these voices and the many others that are often left out of conversations around the design of our built environment.
The Block Party Lounge documents and demonstrates a process built around de-centering the designer. We began with conversations with community-based organizations, and their needs formed the nucleus of our design. The lounge celebrates the work of these non-profit partners and encourages members of the design community to engage in active listening. We hope that this process brings more voices to the table, fostering a more inclusive and diverse design community.
