Visitors will encounter an antique trunk sitting on a table in the park. There is a small porthole into which the visitor can look into the interior of the trunk and see a diorama depicting a scene of Seattle, featuring the Seattle Fireboat Duwamish. The Duwamish is a fireboat built in 1909 for the city of Seattle’s fire department. The fireboat is now a National Historic Landmark. Visitors can see the real Fireboat, in it’s modern state, at the Historic Ships Wharf just outside of MOHAI.
The diorama inside the trunk will connect the 1909 version of the Seattle Fireboat Duwamish with the newer version which resides on the Historic Ships Wharf on the other side of MOHAI. It connects the past with the present.
