The Proximity Chair is a full-scale interactive installation exploring care, closeness, and the hidden negotiations of domestic life. Constructed from layered CNC-cut wood, the rotating seating object shifts between multiple positions that change how participants relate to one another: face-to-face, side-by-side, or partially enclosed. Inspired by research on caregiving, female-headed households, and domestic labor, the installation asks how design can make visible the ways people continuously negotiate support, autonomy, exhaustion, intimacy, and shared space.

Visitors are invited to sit, rotate, observe, and inhabit the structure together, transforming everyday acts of proximity into a collective spatial experience. The installation safely accommodates public interaction through fixed rotational stopping points and stable structural supports. Team members will be present during festival hours to guide participation and facilitate conversation.
