Resonant Grounds Sonic Pavilion is an experiential pavilion that converts wind, vibration, and human interaction into visible geometric phenomena.
Installed at Lake Union Park during the Seattle Design Festival Block Party, the project centers around a suspended acoustic ceiling—an engineered, oversized wind instrument—paired with a sealed acrylic chamber of fine sand that responds dynamically to sonic frequencies. As ambient wind moves through the pavilion and visitors activate tuned interaction points, the suspended tubular array produces resonant frequencies that are transmitted into the central sand chamber. The sand responds by forming intricate standing-wave geometries and shifting interference patterns, allowing visitors to observe sound becoming physical form in real time.
The installation creates a shared environment where architecture, engineering, acoustics, and public participation converge. Rather than presenting resilience and urban transformation as abstract ideas, the pavilion allows visitors to hear, feel, and see systems in motion—making flux tangible through material experience.
